Bubble Run 5k, or maybe less

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Rachel, along with friends, Angeline and Josh, headed to the Puyallup to the Washington State Fairgrounds for the 2024 Bubble Run 5k. This 5k would not be timed and was simply a fun run for the bubbly experience. Oh, and the fun medal at the end.

This would be Rachel’s first bubble run, which has somehow eluded her for all of these years. She’s participated in mud runs, color runs and run runs, and she’s happy to add bubble to that list.

Having not been aware of the day prior packet pick-up (she never got the email), Rachel waited in line for more than an hour before the run (missing her heat, not that it mattered). Thank goodness for Angeline and Josh, who waited with her (along with hundreds of others that didn’t get the email about packet pick-up either).

There were certainly a lot of attendees at the event, and on a quick Google search looking for how many, Rachel found that 816,000 people were in attendance. Uh huh, right… Just goes to show you that sometimes Google gets it wrong. There is no way there were 816,000 people in attendance. At least she doesn’t think so.

The three enjoyed hanging out prior to the start and then jogged a nice relaxing pace, conversational pace to those of you runners out there. Every so often the came across the bubble machines. The bubble machines were each a different color (green, orange, blue, and pink bubbles) and poured massive amounts of bubbles on the heads of runners and walkers. There were times you would be completely covered from head to toe under a pile of bubbles. Slightly odd at moments with so many people surrounding you and not being able to see anything. At least everyone was in the same position and just having fun.

Josh made the choice to go around these massive bubble dumps and stayed nice and dry. Angeline and Rachel headed straight into each of them to get the full bubble experience. This worked out great for Angeline and Rachel, as Josh was ready to snap photos as they came out of the bubble stations. Angeline was much more prepared than Rachel with a good pair of sunglasses to keep the bubbles out of her eyes. Smart girl and they made her look pretty cool, too.

As they came to the finish line, they thought it seemed to soon. Sure enough, Rachel’s Garmin had only logged 2.52 miles of what was supposed to be a 5k course (3.1 miles). Did they miss a stretch of the run? Did her Garmin malfunction? Who knows. She does know that she had a lot of fun getting to hang out with Angeline and Josh and finally experiencing a bubble run. Until next time, be well.
