Quote of the Week

“My body needs laughter as much as it needs tears. Both are cleansers of stress.”

November was host to two benchmark workouts that Rachel was excited to attempt. The 200M Row and the 12 Minute Tread were two she had previously attempted and was looking to beat her personal record for both.

First up was the 200M Row. Her personal record of 36.85 seconds would not be easy to beat. Rowing is definitely not her strongest. As seen below, she missed the mark, barely. Barely on paper, but on the rower, that little bit of effort it would have taken to do better, massive. Also seen below, she was excited to see her name in the top 3 of the Women’s Leaderboard for her age group.

Next would be the 12 Minute Tread. Her love of running would make this one a bit easier than the rowing challenge. As seen below, she was able to beat her previous times and reach a new Personal Record. Yay. She did not make it on the leaderboard for this one, too many awesome women in her age group that outran her.

Just when Rachel thought the rowing challenge for the month was over… the Strength in Numbers workout came around on the 29th. This workout fell on the Friday after Thanksgiving and included the 14-minute row benchmark. Ouch. Especially after the food consumption the day prior. She isn’t sure how she did it, but she was able to pull off another PR beating her previous record by 156 meters. It should be mentioned that she had just done a 14-minute treadmill block in which there were hills involved. She certainly didn’t think things through well, as she pushed a bit harder than she should have on the treadmill. Her legs were shaking after this row.

Rachel also had the opportunity to take a Sunday class with friends Stephen and Jennie to celebrate Stephen’s birthday. They are pictured below after class with Coach Blake.

November was a good month at the gym and December will bring even more fun and challenges, including the 12 Days of Fitness. Rachel can’t believe she’s been a member at OTF for just over a year now. She is nearing 300 classes since joining, which she plans to reach before the end of the year. It will be close, but she will make every effort to reach that goal. Until next time, be well.
